ORIGINAL STUDY

02 / SHAPE THE HOOK

A little repetition.
A lot of possibility.

01 : 01
Select a note to make it yours.

03 / FOLLOW AN IDEA

Same spark. New possibilities.

04 / GIVE IT SOMEWHERE TO GO

Repetition with a reason.

Each block is two bars. A repeats your motif exactly; A′ changes articulation; B develops the ending. Chords move underneath.

05 / HEAR IT IN CONTEXT

Let the parts talk.

PREVIEW SOUNDS ONLY

Bass finds rhythmic gaps. Chords move in close voicings. Arp notes enter in the melody’s spaces. Choose your final instruments in Ableton.

YOURS TO TAKE FURTHER

Good ideas travel.

Notes, groove, expression. Your sound comes next.

A SMALL GUIDE TO GETTING LOST

Start with something
you want to hear again.

  1. Choose a style or artist perspective and press New idea. Filter the list by family, search for an artist, or use the perspective chips under the style name.
  2. Play the two-bar motif with the groove. Try a simple preview sound.
  3. Click a note to edit its pitch, time, length or velocity. Shift-click protects it from development.
  4. Audition a rhythm, pitch or ending alternative. Keep the version that says something to you.
  5. Switch to the full phrase. Hear the motif repeat over moving chords.
  6. Export the melody or idea family into Ableton. Load your instruments and check tempo and loop brackets.

Space: play / stop. Ctrl+Z: undo. Ctrl+Shift+Z: redo. Delete: remove the selected note. Editing controls affect the two-bar source motif.

MIDI carries notes, timing and velocity. WAV captures the browser’s preview sounds. Artist names describe broad creative perspectives; these are original generated studies.

Drum map: 36 kick, 37 rim, 38 snare, 39 clap, 42 closed hat, 46 open hat, 45 tom, 63/64 percussion.

Imports use the first two bars containing notes from your chosen track. Simultaneous notes become the highest voice. A session file preserves your complete Fieldwork work.
